Ingredients and spices that need to be Prepare to make Jeera Rice and Dal Fry:

  1. For Dal Fry:
  2. 3/4 cup Toor dal
  3. 2 tbsp butter
  4. 1 tbsp oil
  5. 2.5 cups water
  6. 2-3 green chillies slit
  7. 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  8. 2 garlic cloves crushed
  9. 1 medium onion finely chopped
  10. 2 tomatoes finely chopped
  11. 1/2 cup water
  12. to taste Salt
  13. 1 tbsp kasuri methi
  14. 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  15. 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  16. 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  17. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  18. 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  19. 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  20. 1 Juice of lemon
  21. For Jeera rice
  22. 1 cup basmati rice
  23. 2 cups water
  24. to taste Salt
  25. 1 bay leaf
  26. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds/ jeera
  27. 4-5 cloves
  28. 1 inch cinnamon stick
  29. 1-2 tbsp ghee
  30. 1 green chillies finely chopped
  31. 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Instructions to make Jeera Rice and Dal Fry

  1. Let's begin with Dal Fry: Wash and clean toor dal
  2. Add cleaned dal to pressure cooker
  3. Add 2.5 cups water to dal in cooker.
  4. Pressure cook dal until very soft.
  5. Once steam is released, open lid and mash dal with ladle or potato masher.Keep it aside.
  6. Heat butter and oil in a pan.
  7. Add crushed garlic cloves and roast for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add green chillies and ginger garlic paste. Saute until raw aroma disappears
  9. Add finely chopped onions
  10. Saute until golden brown
  11. Add in tomatoes, spice powders and salt. Mix well
  12. Saute until raw taste of Tomatoes disappear and it's tender
  13. Add in mashed dal. Mix well until dal is coated with masalas
  14. Add 1/2 cup water and mix well until well combined
  15. Simmer and cook for 5-6 minutes
  16. Meanwhile dry roast kasuri methi for few seconds
  17. Crush kasuri methi to powder
  18. Add crushed methi to dal and mix well
  19. Add lemon juice and mix well. Switch off
  20. Now let's starts with jeera rice Both can be prepared simultaneously. Clean and soak Basmati rice for 30 minutes
  21. Drain excess water and keep it aside
  22. Heat ghee in deep bottom vessel
  23. Add in all whole spices with bay leaf
  24. Dry roast spices until aromat and cumin seeds splutter
  25. Add in green chillies
  26. Add cleaned drained rice to the pan
  27. Saute rice for 2-3 minutes over medium heat
  28. Add water and mix
  29. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste and mix well
  30. Bring water to boil, simmer, cover and cook until rice is done
  31. Garnish both Dal fry and Jeera rice with Coriander leaves. Serve hot with pickle and papad
