  1. 1 tsp mustard / rai
  2. 1/2 tsp jeera / cumin
  3. pinch hing / asafoetida
  4. few curry leaves
  5. 1 green chilli (finely chopped)
  6. 1/4 tsp turmeric / haldi
  7. 2 cup toor dal (pressure cooked)
  8. 1 tbsp goda masala
  9. 1/4 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
  10. 1/2 tbsp jaggery / gud
  11. 5 kokum / punarpuli
  12. 2 tbsp coconut (grated)
  13. 3/4 tsp salt
  14. As Required water
  15. 2 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  16. 1 tbsp ghee and oil

Steps to make Amti dal (Maharashtrian Amti dal)

  1. Firstly, in a large Kadai heat 1 tbsp ghee and saute 1 tsp mustard, ½ tsp jeera, a pinch of thing, and a few curry leaves.
  2. Also add 1 green chili, ¼ tsp turmeric, and saute on low flame.
  3. Further, add 2 cups cooked toor dal (1 cup dal + 3 cups water pressure cooked for 5 whistles)
    get the dal to boil and add 1 tbsp goda masala, ¼ tsp chili powder, ½ tbsp jaggery, 5 kokum, 2 tbsp coconut, and ¾ tsp salt. mix well.
  4. Add ½ cup water and adjust consistency as required.
  5. Mix well and boil for 5 minutes or till spices get cooked completely.
  6. Finally, add coriander leaves and serve amti dal with hot steamed rice.
