  2. Cumin seeds (1 tsp)

  1. Wash the the arhar dal 2-3 times with water until the water runs clear.
  2. Then soak the lentils in 4-5 cups of water and keep it aside for 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a pressure cooker add 3-4 cups of water,add soaked lentils, turmeric powder, salt, some chopped tomato. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
  4. Then take a kadhai,add 2tbsp refined oil. Let it heat.once oil is hot and simmery add 1 tsp cumin seeds the chopped onions. Saute until they turn it to light brown. Stir frequently. Add 1-2 pinch of asafoetida.
  5. Now add finely chopped ginger and garlic.saute for 2 mins.
  6. Now add finely chopped green chillies and tomatoes. Saute for again 2-3 minutes.
  7. Now add coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt and kashmiri red chilli powder. Mix well and cook at low flame for a minute. Now add previously boiled lentils. Mix well. Cook for 2- 3 minutes. Now dal is cooked. Switch off the flame.
  8. In a tadka pan add 1/2 tsp mustard oil,heat it then add 1/4 tsp cumin seeds,1pinch asafoetida, 1-2 dry red chilli. Then give this tadka to cooked dal. In serving bowl serve it by garnishing some chopped cilantro.
