Ingredients and spices that need to be Take to make Aloo Bonda:

  1. 1 cup leftover idli batter
  2. 1 cup batata wada filling or leftover wada filling
  3. For filling mixture:
  4. 2-3 boiled potatoes
  5. 1 tsp oil
  6. 1/2 tsp urad dal
  7. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  8. 1/2 tsp cummin seeds
  9. leaves Few curry
  10. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  11. 1 pinch asafoetida
  12. to taste Salt
  13. 1 tbsp green chillies-ginger paste/ as per your taste
  14. 1 tsp fresh coriander leaves finely chopped
  15. As needed Oil for shallow frying
  16. To serve
  17. As needed Tomato sauce or leftover sambhar

Steps to make Aloo Bonda

  1. In mixing bowl add boiled & peeled potatoes, mashed them.Heat oil in small tadka pan. Add& saute urad dal,as it turns pink add mustard seeds and cummin seeds, curry leaves and turmeric powder, asafoetida. Off the flame. Pour this tempering on mashed potatoes mixture. Add green chillies ginger paste,salt and chopped coriander leaves..mix well and cool. Make small round balls from prepared potato mixture. Pour idli batter in bowl.
  2. Heat appe pan on medium flame. Add 1/2 tsp of oil in each cavity. Dip each potato mixture ball in idli batter and drop in each cavity of appe pan. Cover and cook till the lower end turns crispy and golden brown. Flip and again cook till other side turn crispy and golden brown. Similarly prepared all Aloo bonda.
  3. Serve hot Aloo bonda with tomato ketchup.
  4. Tip: If you have left over sambhar...then arrange prepared Aloo bondas in plate and pour hot sambhar on it and relish.
